Allah Names With Meaning And Explanation in English Allah 99 Names
Allah Beautiful Names of Our Rabb
Allah - The Most commonly used name for One and Only God, The Creator, Cherisher, and Sustainer of all.
"Indeed, I am Allah. There is no God except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance."
(Holy Quran 20:14)
"The most beautiful names belong to Allah: Invoke Him by them."
(Holy Quran 7:180)
To worship Allah and remember Him, it is important to know His beautiful names and attributes.
Let's do Bismillah - In the name of Allah.
Let's try to learn those beautiful names so that we can beseech Him through them, cherishing the amazing faith which we will gain by knowing Allah through His beautiful attributes.
Abu Huraira (r.a) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), said, “Allah has ninety-nine names and whoever preserves them will enter Paradise.”
Muttafaqun Alayhi (agreed upon).
Before starting to learn to glorify the beautiful attributes of Allah, let's address one prevailing and confusing question about the name - Allah.
The question is -
"Why Allah is addressed as He and not she or it?"
This issue comes into the scene when we don't know the rules of the Arabic language.
In Arabic language, everything is either addressed in a masculine gender or in a feminine gender and there is no "it" for gender-neutral entities, so everything is addressed in masculine gender even if it is not meant so, like Qalam (pen) is Qalamun and it is masculine gender, had it been a feminine gender, there would have been an addition of ta marbuta.
Although, we know Qalam (pen) is addressed as masculine gender but in reality, it is not a masculine entity.
Arabic is different from English to have a neutral gender rule and even in French everything addressed is either masculine or feminine and things by default are addressed as masculine and for it to be feminine, an additional alphabet is bound to be added.
So, linguistically we understand that Allah is neither male nor female and is above of such genders, Allah is addressed as He because of linguistics.
Allah is Unique and is not like any of His creation as is mentioned by Him in Surah Ikhlas, chapter 112.
(1) Ar-Rahman Beautiful names of our Rabb From Allah 99 Names
Meaning - The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
Whenever we start something, we are taught to start it with Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim - In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
Allah is Ar Rahman - His Mercy is bestowed upon all His creatures, irrespective of the fact that whether one is a believer or a disbeliever. His Mercy is for all in this world and is seen in everything around us — in the water we drink, in the air we breathe, in the sunshine we enjoy, in the provisions we survive upon, under the vast sky we live, on the beautiful earth whose produce we relish.
The remarkable thing to note is that in the Holy Quran, there is a complete chapter named -
Surah Rahman, the central theme of which revolves around the question that - which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?
This should really make us ponder and reflect that the surah which itself is named as Ar Rahman-Surah Rahman, is interrogating us again and again about our denials and rejections to His favors which He has bestowed upon us beautifully and graciously out of His Mercy.
We know with the advent of social media, we often subconsciously or consciously fall into the trap of comparing our lives with others, and thus it is easy to envy and feel ungrateful of the countless blessings of Ar-Rahman, as one is bound to feel that everybody else on virtual platforms is living a life worth living, with a better standard of living. But what we don't understand is that everyone has their own struggles about which we cannot even envisage, so one should always remember Allah with His attributes as He has blessed us all graciously and in different ways.
SubhanAllah! How weird is our case that even when we are ungrateful of the blessings of
Ar- Rahman, we are actually using His blessings to express it.
The tongue through which we deny, the fingers through which we type the words of ingratitude, the brain through which we think of all negativities about Him, the face through which we frown on His blessings - are all given to us by Ar Rahman - The Most Merciful, The Most Gracious.
It is very important to introspect ourselves, again and again, that which of the favors of our Lord will we deny and how long will we keep denying it all?
We should understand that not acknowledging Ar-Rahman's blessings is a denial in itself, because if we don’t acknowledge the gracious blessings of Ar-Rahman then how will we be able to appreciate them and be grateful for them?
InshaAllah, our lives, and their perspectives will change if we remember Allah with this beautiful attribute of Ar Rahman, as it will make us appreciate His gracious blessings, enormous of which He has bestowed upon us, without even our asking for it.
Remembering Allah with this beautiful attribute will make our life content - Another big blessing in itself.
(2) Ar-Raheem Beautiful Names of our Rabb From Allah 99 Names
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “When Allah created the creatures, He wrote in the Book, which is with Him over His Throne: “Verily, My Mercy prevails over My Wrath.”
(Muttafaqun Alayhi, agreed upon)
Allah says,
"Your Lord has inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy."
(Holy Quran 6:54)
One should always remember that He is
Ar Raheem and has inscribed for Himself the rule of mercy.
Ar-Raheem says in
Holy Quran in surah zumar in ayat no 53.
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is The Forgiving, The Most Merciful."
Knowing Allah with His beautiful names and attributes like Ar Raheem gives one firm conviction and yaqeen (certainty) that if one has erred or sinned then he/she should not fall into another trap of shaitan's deception of going into despair and feeling like there is no forgiveness for him/her to seek from Ar-Raheem.
(3) Al-Malik Beautiful Names of our Rabb From Allah 99 Names
Meaning - The King and The Owner of the dominion of heavens and earth.
"Do you not know that to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and [that] you have not besides Allah any protector or any helper?"
(Holy Quran 2.107)
Allahu Akbar! When we remember Allah with this beautiful attribute - Al-Malik, we realize that this dunya (world) is designed in a way that it is a test for a believer, be it in the form of hardships or in the form of ease.
We realise that He alone is The Only Owner of all and we should seek His help alone as besides Al-Malik, we have no guardian to guard us and protect us, to Him belongs the dominion of heavens and earth.
La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa ‘ala kulli sha’in Qadir
(None has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, without any partner, to Him belongs all the sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things all-powerful).
We should understand that in Surah Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Holy Quran, after the ayat - All praise belongs to Allah who is Rabbul Aalameen (The Lord of all the worlds and all that exists), the other ayat which follows is "Maliki yaum id-deen” (The King, The Lord, The Owner of the day of judgment).
"Iyyaka Na'budu wa Iyyaka nasta'een (You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help)" is the ayat after Maliki yaum id deen.
So, in surah Fatiha, after
acknowledging Allah as RabbulAalameen and praising Him, acknowledging that He is Malik, we say we worship Him and seek help from Him.
But do we in reality do so?
And this should really make us think and reflect that -
Do we really do so as per our claim which we make in surah Fatiha in our daily five times salah?
Do we really seek help from Al-Malik - The Owner of all?
OR
Do we compromise with the principles of Islam due to our weaknesses and shortcomings and seeing the strength of earthly kings in the name of so-called wisdom?
Do we really believe Allah as Al-Malik, The Owner of all, The Malik of the day of judgement when even the earthly kings will be standing and shivering in giving the account of what they did with the power they were given as a test?
Do we?
We should remember Allah as Al-Malik often so that we can understand that He is The Only King of all kings and The Only Owner of the dominions of heavens and earth and He is Malik of Yaum id deen - The day of Judgement so that we fear not the people with power on earth, who are nothing but dust and will be held accountable for sure in the hereafter.
Remembering this beautiful attribute will make us humble as we will be aware that we too will be held accountable before Al-Malik for all our actions with regards to ourselves, to our kith, kin, and with regards to all other people.
(4) Al-Quddus Beautiful Names of our Rabb From Allah 99 Names
Meaning - The One Who is Pure, without any fault.
The One Whose attributes are Perfect.
The One Who is beyond all human understanding of purity, perfection.
"Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth declares the glory of Allah, The King, The Perfect, The Mighty, The Wise."
(Holy Quran, 62:01).
SubhanAllah! Every creation knows well its Tasbeeh (remembrance) to glorify Him. He is above all, He is The Only Perfect - Al Quddus.
Alhamdulillah, we as humans are blessed by Him in many forms like intelligence and reasoning, eloquence in speech, beauty, and the best forms but then too we are imperfect, we lack perfection.
And interestingly, it seems, as if our hearts are designed in such a way that we crave for the perfection.
Sadly, we defeat the purpose when we search for that perfection in ourselves or in others who are nothing but creation like us - the imperfect ones.
We often feel comfortable and we often buy the perception that - "she or he" is perfect and will fill our void or will complete us, making us perfect.
No one can complete us, neither we can complete anyone as we all are imperfect with our faults and shortcomings in some or the other areas or domain.
No doubt! One can complement each other differently but cannot fill or replace the heart's craving for The Perfect.
The Only One Who is above all faults, imperfections is
He - Al Quddus.
We - the imperfect beings with a heart designed to crave the perfect should seek Him, Al Quddus - The Holy, The Only Perfect One.
The day our hearts will start glorifying Him and start doing His Tasbeeh (remembrance) keeping in mind that He is The Only Perfect One to be sought and beseeched, then that day we will be at peace with ourselves and other beings, as we will be content then, that no matter what, the creation cannot fill our heart's void and we will stop expecting from them the impractical - the unobtainable aspirations and unending hopes, which will make them feel comfortable with their own selves, and will safeguard us from unnecessary heartbreaks, anxiety, and tensions, and will make us better and content on accepting the haqq (truth).
This doesn't mean one is supposed to accept evils and unjust traits in others, thinking they are imperfect and it doesn't mean one start doing evil thinking they are imperfect ones, one should be constant in reminding the beneficial reminders to others and to oneself that this world is a test and we will be accountable for our words, for our actions and even for our inactions.
Acknowledging the fact that only Allah is Al-Quddus and remembering Him often with this beautiful attribute will make our life simple.
(5) As-Salaam Beautiful names of our Rabb From Allah 99 Names
Meaning - The Source of Peace, The Bestower of Peace and tranquillity.
The deen we follow is Islam which also means peace.
We are named as Muslims because we submit to His will, and follow Islam as His Deen.
Our greeting is Assalamualaikum- Peace and blessings be upon you.
But we witness the turbulence and unrest to the highest degrees. Sometimes, it seems we are the ones in the sight of the world who are synonymous to “terrorists”.
Some of us even land in depression seeing all this.
We need to understand that the Holy Quran has been revealed as a Furqan, the one which clearly farq (judges) between good and evil.
When we recite and contemplate upon it then we realize that the unrest we see is not due to the basis as shown in the headlines.
The chaos, the havoc, the unrest is all because of the illegal occupations, majorly because of the foreign interventions, interested in important geopolitical positions, or natural resources present in particular regions.
We need to understand that if we read the Holy Quran, we will realize that we are commanded to stand for justice even if it means to stand against our own kith, kin, and even against our own selves.
(For reference Holy Quran surah Nisa, ayat 135).
But how can anyone even think of peace without justice?
Justice is the prerequisite to establishing Peace.
In today's scenario, how can the society be just when the capitalists are sucking the resources and exploiting the masses, making poor poorer and rich richer?
The recent Oxfam report shows that World’s billionaires have more wealth than 4.6 billion people.
(Published: 20th January 2020)
Then how can with this ever-widening gap between rich and poor, a just society providing peace can be established?
How can we have peace when there is injustice all around?
How can we have peace when everywhere in mainstream media we are shown as "brutal and terrorists" just because this narrative makes it easy for people to think that whatever atrocities is being inflicted upon Muslims are all justified, the public opinion is made in such a way through media houses fuelled and funded by capitalists that it gets deeply embedded in their perspective.
Sadly, people buy all that is served to them in headlines and many Muslims are even suffering from identity crises because of all this havoc happening.
We need to understand, this world is a test and a temporary place.
We need to understand, we have to be smarter than shaitan and his allies.
We need to understand that peace is attained only through justice and we need to understand that all the Prophets of Allah stood against the tyranny, evil, and injustice of their times. We know Allah has bestowed peace upon them all and the believers also send peace and blessings upon them.
In Surah As-Saffat, it is mentioned -
“Peace be upon Noah in all the worlds,” (37:79). “Peace be upon
Abraham,” (37:109). “Peace be upon Moses and Aaron,” (37:120).
“Peace be upon Elias,” (37:130).
“Peace be upon the Messengers."
(37:181)....
May As-Salaam make us among those upon whom He has bestowed His peace.
What we need to do in these turbulent times, where unrest has engulfed the whole atmosphere is that we really need to re-connect ourselves to Him, As-Salaam - The Source of Peace and The Bestower of Peace, through His Book - through the way of His Prophet (peace be upon him).
In the Holy Quran, Surah Yunus ayat no 25, Allah, As Salaam says -
"And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path."
What is noteworthy is that -'Dar us Salaam' is the word used for the home of peace which is Jannah (paradise), a place where no humiliation, no sadness, no grief, no bad words will exist.
The real peace will be there in its entirety.
So, let's try to establish justice on this earth to restore peace, meanwhile keeping this in mind the reality that this world can never be a utopian one to exist.
We will keep hearing much that will grieve us from time to time but let's keep striving.
We should keep striving, having yaqeen (certainty) that the perfect place of peace will be His Gardens of Bliss, this will not make us fall into despair if we see no apparent results of our sincere activism.
Let's remember Allah often with this beautiful attribute of As-Salaam so that we can begin the journey of attaining peace.
"O Allah, You are peace, peace comes from You.
You are The Most High,
You O Possessor of Glory and Honour, grant us peace."
Ameen.
